Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Syria, Michael Ohnmacht, reiterated Wednesday EU’s commitment to support Syria’s economic recovery and political dialogue.

“From New York to Syria, the European Union continues to support a Syrian-led, inclusive, and peaceful transition, free from any foreign interference,” Ohnmacht said on X.

He added that the EU is “committed to continuing political dialogue, meeting urgent humanitarian needs, and supporting Syria’s economic and social recovery.”

On Tuesday, president Ahmad al-Sharaa met with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Costa said after the meeting that the European Union continues to support “a genuine, inclusive, and peaceful Syrian-led transition process” free from harmful foreign interference.
