Lithuania’s national broadcaster, LRT, has announced that the country does not plan to return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the near future.

Why don’t they want to return?

The head of the Lithuanian delegation, Audrius Giržadas, explained that taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest carries a cost comparable to the main Eurovision entry fee. He also noted that staging a national selection for an event held at the end of the year would add considerable expense.

In 2023, after a long hiatus, LRT aired the Junior Eurovision Song Contest from Nice, France. The following year, the broadcast shifted to the LRT PLIUS channel. Given the current viewing figures in Lithuania, the broadcaster has no plans to re-enter the competition any time soon.

Lithuania’s Junior Eurovision journey

In 2007, Lithuania made its debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with Lina Joy and the song “Kai miestas snaudžia”, which placed 13th. Overall, Lithuania has participated four times in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with their latest attempt in 2011 with Paulina Skrabytė and the song “Debesys”, which placed 10th.
