1. Palisades and Eaton fire victims plead with Congress, White House to provide disaster relief
It’s been over nine months since the Palisades and Eaton fires destroyed thousands of homes and killed 31 individuals, and Washington has yet to act on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s supplemental disaster relief request.
While those in Washington are distant from the destruction and tragedy — Rob Jernigan doesn’t have that luxury.
Jernigan, an architect, has created Team Palisades, which he describes as a “coordinated model for community-led recovery, built on the Block Captain framework” developed by After The Fire USA.
He says they have been able to get 250 block captains on board and 25 neighborhood representatives to bring the community together.
That inaction took him to Washington to share his story with lawmakers alongside other residents of the Eaton and Palisades fires.
2. LA County launches 23 billboards to promote fire recovery campaign
As part of a public awareness campaign to assist fire-torn communities, Los Angeles County announced 23 new billboards are going up to encourage residents to support small and micro businesses impacted by January’s wildfires.
The billboards — a mix of digital premier panels, digital bulletins, transit shelters and printed postal panels — will be up through November, reminding residents and visitors that every purchase at a local shop or restaurant directly helps businesses recover from losses to property, revenue and customers, particularly those hardest hit by the Eaton and Palisades fires.
Clear Channel Outdoor, an outdoor advertising company, sponsored the billboards, in a bid to expand the county campaign’s reach.

3. Kimmel is back on ABC to big ratings, but some affiliates still refuse to air his show
Jimmy Kimmel is back on his ABC late-night show, but it’s still a mystery when — or if — viewers in cities such as Washington, Seattle and St. Louis will be able to see him again on their televisions.
Kimmel returned with no apologies, but in an emotional monologue where he appeared close to tears, the host said that he was not trying to joke about the assassination. He also paid tribute to Kirk’s widow.
And it got a large audience, with ABC reporting nearly 6.3 million people tuned in to the broadcast alone, despite the blackouts in many cities. As is often the case with late-night hosts’ monologues, there was a larger audience online, with more than 15 million people watching Kimmel’s opening remarks on YouTube by Wednesday evening. ABC says more than 26 million people watched Kimmel’s return on social media, including YouTube.
Typically, he gets about 1.8 million viewers each night on television. The numbers released by ABC do not include viewership from streaming services.
