On Thursday, September 25, Romanian Defense Minister Ionut Moșteanu announced the approval of rules for shooting down Russian drones and aircraft that violated the country’s airspace.
This was reported by the Digi24 publication.
As the minister explained, the law provides for three stages of shooting down targets. In particular, it concerns identification, jamming, and interference.
During the second stage, it will be decided who and with what, if necessary, will shoot down an aircraft that has illegally violated Romanian airspace.
However, the use of weapons and destruction is a last resort, which will be used only if other methods have failed and the object does not leave the country’s airspace.
Moșteanu did not disclose other details, emphasizing that they remain classified.
At the same time, he said, defense agencies have a list of facilities that need to be protected. The list will include both temporary and permanent buildings, and will be updated according to realities.
As a reminder, during the Russian air attack on Ukraine , a Russian drone violated Romanian airspace and flew into the country’s territory.
As it became known, the Russian drone was in Romanian airspace for about 50 minutes and descended to a distance of 10 kilometers.
By the way, Romanian Defense Minister Ionut Moșteanu said that Russian drones cross the country’s airspace almost every week.
