  1. Democracy is over, folks. We’re not allowed out of this voluntary union.

  2. I Believe he has said a lot of things which have turned out not the be true.

  3. Ah of course Sir Kid Starver. Great to see the Union of Equals playing out. Just as long as England is more Equal than the Devolved Nations with London at the top of the tree.

  4. I wouldn’t worry too much. Most of what he says is pish, or he backtracks / denies it later on.

  5. >Sir Keir Starmer has said a second Scottish independence referendum “won’t happen” on his watch

On current polling for Holyrood, the Senedd and England’s local elections, it looks like it won’t be his watch for very long.

    >He added that an SNP majority would give Swinney’s nationalist party a “third decade in power”.

Usually it’s a five year term.

  6. No referendum is the official policy of the UK government, regardless of which party that government is. As long as the political class of the independence movement slavishly hold to the Westminster system there will be no independence.

  7. He’s not going to be in a position to decide for much longer…

  8. I can’t see us getting another one except under very exceptional circumstances, the likes of which I can only vaguely gesture at. It’s why I voted yes in 2014. I knew when they said ‘once in a generation’ it wasn’t just to spur us on. We weren’t going to get another chance for a long, long time. Don’t look to me for answers on where we go now, I haven’t a clue.

  9. It’s mental how much we were lied to and are now just stuck in this shit show.

  10. Came straight from that article. It’s horrid and shows STV’s true colours.

The deference of referring to Swinney by his name and not his official title of First Minister while referring to Starmer by both his name and titles, referring to the SNP as the “nationalist party”, the platforming of Starmer as if he’s our leader in a way they never seem to do with Swinney, at least properly, then Starmer and the UK Government’s repeated line about independence being a distraction used by the SNP even though the SNP seem uninterested in it and the promotion of the UK Government’s gloating on the issue of whisky.

Those job cuts can’t come soon enough, although who knows why they’re cutting jobs considering they barely seem to have enough staff to actually publish written articles but best you believe they can find a journo to write that tripe and other articles about car crashes in Aberdeenshire or wherever.

Pro-tip to any STV journo’s reading this, if you are, the Press Association should be used for details, not full articles.

Sorry if this comment is a lot but I needed to rant.

  11. The UK as an Entity is going to be exposed internationally as a sham & has illegally exploited Scotland & it’s resources for generations & denied self governance, devolution was a reluctant stop gap with reduced powers to appease the Scots, the so called ‘Union’ of equals will be exposed as the lie it is, self determination is a undeniable right, the insidious ‘Union’ is just another word for colonial theft, Scottish independence is Scotland’s right & is inevitable.

  12. He knows for a fact, it would be a majority YES this time. Time to get tae fuck.. up eh road!

  13. They’re probably unlikelu to ever to allow us to have another.

It was close enough last time for them and nobody wants to be the one that breaks up the union. Think Cameron only did it because he was too confident

  14. Keir Starmer has a long and proud history of going back on his word, so I wouldn’t worry about this too much

  15. what the fuck man, who does he think he is lmao, nhs is the best in the uk and education is the best in the uk, independence soon hopefully 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  16. This the guy who hangs out with Trump and puts people with ties to Epstein in positions of power, yeah? Hmm

  17. Would be ironic if Reform UK promised a 2nd indyref if they got a majority – that really would a tricky challenge at the ballot box in Scotland

  18. Starmer seems determined to lose votes for Scottish Labour.

This pronouncement may be red meat for the Reform hounds south of the border, but will play badly to the Labour base in Scotland, many of whom are indy-curious, I would say from my own personal experience.

Also the disrespectful tone for a fairly-elected Scottish Government is pitiful.

He’s not saying the same about Plaid, who are nipping at the fairly nationalist Labour government of Wales.

  19. Not how we do things in the democratic world where consent to governance is required.

The truth is, a high enough vote for the SNP is an unassailable demand for a referendum which must be respected.

  20. You’d read this shit and see how blatantly English media/politicians genuinely look down on the Scottish and you’d think it would be a wake up call for all the Scottish unionists who believed the “better together” bollocks… but let’s be real. If they believed that shite then, they’re probably cheering on Westminster shitting all over them now.

  21. He’s lucky if he’s still PM this time next week how the fuck is he gonna have a say in it?

  22. Ten years ago, despite being pro-independence, I had the stance that if the uk was at war, I would be ok with potentially giving up my life to fight and defend it.

Absolutely not my stance these days…… plenty of unionists (the majority, some would say) who are happy with the status quo that can do it instead.

  23. He does realise it’s an alleged “voluntary union” we don’t need fucking permission to leave..bloody foreigners trying to impose their will lol

  24. He should probably be more worried about being brought to justice for his complicity in a genocide and keeping his own position as leader of the labour party.

  25. I’d swap one unionist for ten refugees..let them all go south to their masters..empty Scotland of its traitors and get folk who want to improve us not keep us chained to westminister..wannabee English with their butchers apron pish anyway..it’s a win win lol

  26. how long can they keep trotting out the “once in a generation” line til it becomes silly, cause it’s been over a decade now and the political climate has substantially shifted

  27. So he’s afraid enough of the indy and election polling that he has to publicly come out and deny it.

It’s an affront to the democratic process and confirms that Scotland cannot ever leave the Union.

Being trapped in a union is not a partnership, it’s authoritarian control by england.

  28. And that right there is why there are some in Scotland that think Scotland is considered a colony by England.

Gotta love democracy when it’s only convenient and beneficial to Westminster eh?

  29. I’m confused, if a majority indy government isn’t mandate (like it was last time) then what is?

  30. That kind of utterly patronising attitude is precisely why the Labour vote is collapsing in Scotland.
