SAN YGNACIO, Tex. (KGNS) – Zapata Border Patrol agents collaborated with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to intercept a human smuggling attempt involving a box truck carrying 55 undocumented immigrants.
The U.S. Border Patrol Laredo Sector announced the operation on Thursday, September 25, though the incident occurred the week before.
Reports indicate that the box truck was found near San Ygnacio when agents conducted a traffic stop, which revealed an ongoing human smuggling attempt.
55 undocumented immigrants were discovered hiding in different areas of the truck’s cargo compartment, including a concealed wall at the back of the vehicle. According to reports, the immigrants were charged with illegal entry, which carries a fine of $5,000 and a maximum jail sentence of six months.
The case has been referred to HSI for further investigation.
