Gov. Hochul is announcing millions of dollars to grow New York’s clean energy workforce. This announcement comes during Climate Week.

The governor says $16 million will support job training and green workforce development programs. $12 million is coming from the New York Power Authority to expand training in electric vehicle maintenance, clean energy technology, and support services like childcare and transportation for workers in training programs. Another $4 million will come from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to fund green jobs for youth programs, focusing on environmental justice communities.

“Green jobs are the future, and Governor Hochul recognizes the importance of equipping our future leaders with the skills they need to be successful in New York’s clean energy transition,” said DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton. “The $16 million in workforce development investments, including $4 million from DEC, is paving a pathway to green employment and a prosperous future for those most in need of support.”

State leaders say the investment is about preparing young people and workers in disadvantaged communities for careers in the clean energy economy.

“As we transition to a clean energy future, it is essential that we equip New Yorkers with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in this evolving industry,” said Gov. Hochul.
Applications for the DEC’s green-jobs youth grants are open now, and due January 28.
