Bentley’s Tavern is speaking out after the tragic death of their colleague, Josh Soden.
In a letter to the community, the owners said they are heartbroken by the loss of the longtime employee, describing him as someone who brought warmth and kindness to everyone who walked through the doors. They said the accident that took his life, outside the tavern earlier this month, has left the entire staff shaken.
“Our team is TIPS-certified and trained to serve responsibly, and we take that responsibility seriously. This tragic accident does not reflect the care and commitment we bring to our work, yet it reminds us of how precious and fragile life can be. We want to assure you that we are working closely with the authorities as they complete their investigation.” — Melanie & Wayne Beale, Bentley’s Tavern
Bentley’s stressed that all employees are TIPS-certified and trained to serve responsibly, and that they are fully cooperating with police as the investigation continues, providing security footage and staff information to authorities. The owners said their focus now is on supporting employees, customers, and Soden’s family, while honoring his memory inside the place he helped define.
Soden was killed after being struck by a car in the parking lot of the Malta tavern on Sept. 8.
He remained in the hospital for more than a week before being declared brain dead and taken off life support.
The driver accused of hitting him, Morgan Lange, 33, faces charges including vehicular manslaughter, DWI, and tampering with evidence. Investigators said her blood alcohol level was 0.12%.
They also said she asked someone to dispose of an alcoholic beverage that was in her car.
