  3. I haven’t read the details but potentially this wouldn’t be terrible? Doesn’t Denmark, for instance, have a digital ID system that works well and actually does make it difficult for illegals to live in the country, because you’ll need the digital ID for setting up bank accounts, health care, etc?

    What is very questionable is the timing… There is already a lot of concern about surveillance and loss of privacy in Britain and this measure is like pouring gasoline on the fire.

  12. Given everyone just virtually locates themselves in the Netherlands now we need to verify age, we can expect a massive uptick in the Dutch searching for ‘bird with big chebs’ / ‘not completely ugly lass’/ ‘sheep’ / ‘prod disciplined by catholic heure’ searches on certain websites.

  16. I don’t see the problem with Digital ID. We have BankID. Works fine in my experience.

  19. We’ve been here before. It was *massively* unpopular and repealed after 5 years, with the ID database being deleted. Funnily enough, this was Labour’s idea too:

    The UK fucking hates being measured, numbered and catalogued. It goes all the way back to the Doomsday Book of 1086. Socialists like those red fucks in power *love* it, because they fundamentally hate individalism and see people as economic units, not human souls who want the government out of their gaff.

  21. I kinda find it funny that when I moved to Germany I was surprised everyone had to have an id, including me, yet we were never forced to do it in the uk. And now they want digital ids, it’s hilarious.
