Which Countries Are Federal States? Federation 101

  1. Well the agreed solution for the Cyprus Problem it is not just a simple federation like in the case of the USA or Germany etc (that their systems work like a federal republic because of reasons completely different from Cyprus) it’s actually a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation that has not been implemented in any country before ever. The closer system to what the federation in Cyprus would look like it is Bosnia and Herzegovina, although it is not exactly the same but very similar and close. Interestingly, the federal system of Bosnia was based on the plans of the cyprus problem solution. Unfortunately, we now see how many problems the system (as was implemented and orchestrated by the British and Americans who made it) has in Bosnia and how the country got stuck behind every other balkan country because of the different political approaches and targets each of the 3 ethnic groups and the 2 federal states have and now that the serbian state wants more autonomy bringing instability and worries of a potential secession from the federal state and a new round of conflict. I really afraid that we don’t get the messages from the problems this kind of dividing solutions have caused to other countries too and unfortunately i’m afraid that the consequences of a potential failure of a similar solution in Cyprus will be much worse and more blooded than that in the case of Bosnia because in Cyprus the problem is much more complicated than it was in Bosnia with many different factors, not clear ethnic land areas and thousands of native displaced populations etc.
