Municipal elections: 5-year-residency requirement for foreigners to be dropped

  1. I might actually manage to register this time!

    >Foreigners must no longer live in Luxembourg for five years before they can vote in municipal elections.

In addition, **the delay to register on the voting lists has been lowered from 87 to 55 days prior to the election**. The goal is to reinforce citizen participation.

    >This was announced by Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding, Minister for Family Affairs Corinne Cahen, and Minister of Justice Sam Tanson on Thursday afternoon.

**The next municipal elections will not be held in October, as is tradition, but on 11 June 2023.** The electoral law and the municipality law will be amended accordingly.

  2. This is very interesting, thanks for posting. I’ve never been allowed to vote/participate in the political processes of any of the countries i have lived in. Looks like 2023 might just be my first time voting in a local election.
