Oh good. That will fix things and make everyone’s lives better like it did with all the other things that were privatised, you know, like utilities.
Hasn’t it been proven that privatising government processes makes them worse not better?
One positive is that they are a cash cow for the directors who win the contract
>Although Tuesday morning’s Cabinet meeting was focused on ways of tackling the cost of living crisis as households face spiralling energy bills, government sources said Mr Johnson highlighted how improving the efficiency of public bodies could also contribute to reducing the financial burdens faced by people.

>With many families planning to take their first summer holiday since the pandemic this year, the Passport Office has been hit with an unprecedented surge in applications because millions delayed renewing their passports during lockdown. Thousands have been left with no choice but to pay £150 to fast-track their applications in time for the summer break.

>MPs told the Commons on Monday that a new 10-week target for processing passport applications was being repeatedly breached and they accused the Passport Office of presiding over an “absolute shambles”.
Send in Nadine Dorries, she’s an expert in, um, er…
What’s she an expert in again?
so it will now be £300 for a passport instead of £90?
England likes to privatise where they can- don’t they?
Ignoring that giving a private company a monopoly on a public service that they can charge for is really dumb, is the Boris essentially saying that his government can’t run the passport office very well?
It’s not like someone else runs it, is it? The government have overall control? If it’s doing so poorly, have they don’t anything to resolve this?
Take away all their resource to make them perform poorly, complain they are performing poorly, privatise them and then they stay working poorly, while charging 5 times the price for services that are actually getting worse over time.
Classic Tory manoeuvre. Make up any excuse to privatise more of the government and its functions until there is nothing left and everything works very badly and is very expensive. Arseholes.
Probably wants to privatise it is so he and his cronies can screw us for a bit more money.
The U turn expert in charge and big liar spoke. Ugh! LOL
What Tory Russian donor mate of his which has idea on how to run a passport company will get the contract or will it be Hancock’s pub landlord mate?
How do you even privatise that? They’re issuing official government documents, how do you retain control over the process of issuing passports if you privatise it? Like what do you do, as Boris, if the company you sold the passport franchise to decides to start selling them to anyone regardless of eligibility?
Who has he got in mind/lined up for that juicy contract?
Whilst doing fuck all to help said delays as part of the tory “Privatise everything and sell it off, cheap to our mates.” plan. If they could, they would tax us for breathing in the air. Hell, they probably would love it if they could get away with taking 90% of our wages and dump it into their personal accounts.
Shouldn’t he be upset at the Home Secretary who is ultimately in charge of that?
When will these twatts realise that the free market is over. It has proved over forty years to be detrimental to every public service it touches. Many, many things do not belong in the private sector. The public taxpayers always lose out and have never seen one iota of benefit from Reaganomics and Thatcher deregulation.
That should bring the entire system to a shuddering halt try increasing staffing levels you fucking wombat “oh hang on wombats are brighter than you”
Put a passport in for renewal on 31st of March and the new one arrived 22nd April.
As if they have not been in power for 11 years and any deficiencies in The Passport Office (real or imagined) is nothing at all to with them or their incompetence even to run a Whelk Stall.
Of course, what Privatisation usually means is money or sinecures for them, their mates, or their donors. If prime site property is involved all the more ‘attractive’ as far as they are concerned.
Greed and Privatisation has destroyed what made the UK cohesive after WW2.
This is just an admission that the Minister he has selected is incapable of overseeing part of their portfolio correctly.
This is endemic throughout the current government.
NHS, DVLA, Environmental Agency, etc. The list is almost endless
boris johnson accusing someone else of presiding over an absolute shambles?!?!?!?
Oh aye, giving another contract to Dido fucking Harding are ye?
They plan on merging the HMPO with the General Registry Office, so a birth certificate is about to cost £450 too.
Seeing a pattern here. Gradually public services and sectors are being privatised by the Tory government. The NHS is next…
As a renewal my nephew ordered one three weeks ago and new one delivered after two weeks.
There’s a delay?
Imagine Elon Musk owning the passport office…
I think Boris has lost the plot and is waiting to be kicked out of downing street.
So now when you get your passport all your details will be sold to pals of Boris, Next will be only passport holders can vote just to force voter ID and sell more data like voting patterns.
Its also hard to attract workers when you freeze pay for a decade but I’m sure that’s not part of the issue.

That Boris Brexit initiative doesn’t help:
