I don’t really have anything against him as Mayor of London, but also I don’t think anyone believes he would be a serious contender for leader of the Labour party.
And he’d probably win again. Although I think after 12 years some fresh blood would be good.
At this point he may as well declare himself King of London
I’ll keep voting for him until someone produces a better candidate.
I’d only vote for someone who wants to keep ulez going. If he’s the only one (?), makes my choice easy.
Haha ok i like him but i do not really think he should run for a fourth term unless they cannot find a strong candidate. I also believe he doesnt know his next plan in his career so he wants to continue with the London mayor role?
Having said that, if he can prove he has done a great job until the next election, why not?
I said this in the UKpol thread, but I really think we could use some fresh blood to step up and give London’s nightlife the revivification it needs. Go to any other European city and you’ll quickly notice how dire our nightlife is in comparison.
He should only be allowed to run as an independent. About time for a fresh perspective on things. If people really want to vote for him, then fair enough, but we seem to be stuck with him because there’s no other labour candidate. Worked for Corbyn, after all. He ran on his own record.
He’s got my vote
London is a Labour city. Unless they have an amazing Candidate, Conservatives won’t ever get a mayor. boris was a one-off “joke” candidate that people voted for because they thought he talked reality and could have a pint with him.
No self respecting Conservative wants to publicly lose London mayoral contest, so we get idiots like Susan Hall instead.
Good luck getting any money for London if he’s still in power once Reform comes in
I think he is doing a better job than most people credit him for. Yes, the night scene in London is not doing well but compare London with other capitals and you’ll quickly see the positives. Knife crime and petty crime also seems to have gone down to some degree.
Khan does not seem to have any credible opposition every time there is an election. The last opposition candidate had no idea about transport and probably thinks Arriva is Italian for goodbye.
I do think a change is needed as Khan is not very visible when things go wrong or in the event of a crisis. He’s faced criticism for his armoured cars with police detail, when his predecessors had no issue to be seen riding the tube or on a bus (not a brand new one for a photo shoot, the same aging hybrid bus full of litter and chicken wings boxes like the rest of us when the schools are out).
Though Boris was a buffoon, he was *our* buffoon and the majority of Londoners could relate to him. The “Bus Drivers Son” riding around in a Range Rover SVR, a little less…
How was Boris compared to him
I think this is a great example why there needs to be a term limit on all elected office roles.
Also don’t think there should be national political party backing of mayoral candidates, it just means tribalism wins over all and independents don’t get a looking.
Could really use term limits for political positions
he’s a breath of fresh air amongst the current political scene
He’ll win because of trashy opposition, but what exactly is he offering ? He’s achieved little of note in 9 years and seems to have no real plans going forward
Good, need someone who has dedicated his career to London, not perfect for some, but can’t deny his determination. His pushing of the ULEZ when all were telling him not to do it shows a man who believes in his policies and not which way the wind is blowing, and he was right to stick with it.
I have nothing against him particularly, but one person in a position of power for too long is never healthy or good for democracy, time to let someone else in Labour have a go.
another failure from him?
I will never vote him again.
I’d rather have Khan as PM and a Green mayor.
I don’t think he’s done half as much in his tenure as he could have, but he also has been less shit than most. At the same time, the only reason I’ll probably still vote for him is because there’s unlikely to be a better candidate, at least not one with a chance of winning. Any other candidate, such as whoever the Tories decide to back, is likely to be utter shite rather than simply mediocre.
