MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Current issues of Belarus-Singapore cooperation were discussed during a meeting between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov and Singaporean Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The parties noted the importance of strengthening political dialogue and expressed readiness to hold ministerial political consultations to update the bilateral agenda. Particular attention was paid to the development of trade and economic ties. The minister noted Belarus is eager to expand supplies of domestic food products to the Singaporean market,” the press service reported.
In this regard, the Belarusian side expressed hope for the completion of the accreditation process for Belarusian poultry producers by the Singapore Food Agency.
The parties also agreed to expand the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.
The Belarusian top diplomat and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro discussed the steps for the further development of the legal framework, including the preparation of an agreement to abolish the visa requirements and the work on a draft agreement on air communication.
“The signing of these documents will increase passenger and cargo flows between the two states. Belarus proposed to establish an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, noting its readiness to step up interaction in trade, investment, and tourism,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
