Poland opens border with Belarus, urges its citizens to leave immediately

  8. Poland seems to expect things to deteriorate there soon. Is that why the US was sending them a lifeline?

    There hasn’t been enough scrutiny of the lifting of air industry sanctions on Belarus and the US recently attending their military drills.

  9. When Poland suddenly closed borders we left some people behind. Now they have time to get away from agrofuhrer. It was not main reason to reopen borders from what I understand, but we had a lot of internal tension because some Polish citizens were still there.

    Now if (when) the shit hits the fan, be it in week or a month, they know.

So first, official version, is that Polish authorities closed border with Belarus duet to Zapad 2025, but they didn’t anounced it too much in advance, so a lot of Polish truckers stucked in queues and couldn’t make it through borders, so they opened borders, asking for quick leave in case that they need to close it again. 

    Less official version is that closure of borders disrupted Chinesee trade routs, and Chineese Ministry of foreign affairs agreed to tame Russian a bit for reopening train borders.

  17. This is a seriously alarming escalation. The combination of the war next door and the arbitrary detentions makes this feel like a powder keg. It definitely seems like Polish intelligence has picked up on a specific and immediate threat. Telling your own citizens to get out is not a decision made lightly.

  20. Not saying the situation isn’t serious, but the authorities continuously urged polish nationals to leave Belarus since 2022, so this isn’t really anything new.

    I thought Poland was telling Belarusians to leave Belarus.

    Poland is advising its own people to leave Belarus because if things escalate, it may be impossible to bring them back. They are also being targeted for arrest so it’s a good idea to return to Poland.

    I hope this clarifies the headline, folks.

  26. Its all posturing. Russia is not going to go near Poland and Poland is not go going to go to war with Russia.

    There is a concern that Poland will see an opportunity to get NATO engaged but no way would they do it alone.
