Malta’s three national performing arts companies will, for the first time, have full-time professional artists on staff as part of a new season launched by the National Agency for the Performing Arts (NAPA).

The 2025/26 programme, unveiled on Saturday by Culture Minister Owen Bonnici, will feature the agency’s three companies, KorMalta, Teatru Malta and ŻfinMalta, in a season of 25 performances in Malta and across Europe.

Bonnici said there will be investment in employment opportunities within the sector, with this season marking the first time each national company will have full-time professional artists on staff.

The season also marks Teatru Malta’s 10th anniversary, with celebrations including a showcase of three productions from European countries and the launch of an international project early next year to provide a platform for Malta’s cultural sector.

Established in 2023, NAPA is Malta’s central institution for the development and promotion of the performing arts.

“This new season strengthens creative expression and gives Malta a clear vision to stand out both nationally and internationally,” Bonnici said.

NAPA chief executive Dominic Galea said the new season reflected “the synergy, vision and talent of our artistic community” and praised the dedication of staff and collaborators.

Alongside the stage programme, the public also had behind-the-scenes access to explore NAPA’s creative spaces for the first time with free workshops, live performances and discussions with artists at its premises within MCAST in Paola.
