  1. The first Patriot battery being in Ukraine was confirmed a long time ago. What’s new here is that Zelensky says another 2 will be activated before year’s end.

Israel operated a total of 8 batteries. But they’re old and need refurbishment in the US to bring them up to the standard Ukraine needs.

  2. According to the article more are on the way which is great.

  3. Considering Israel has it’s own domestic multi-layered air defense + US THAAD batteries, these patriot batteries will be put to much better use in Ukraine. Great news.

  4. Israel has better alternatives domestically anyway, because these Patriots are of a much older generation. Certainly would be best if they were all sent to Ukraine. Then these can take care of more simple targets, leaving Ukraine to use more advanced patriots for more complex targets

  5. So Israel finally admits it — the Patriots are in Ukraine and more are coming. That’s a big escalation in defense support.

  6. Don’t like Israel for obvious reasons but can’t blame Ukraine for taking the missiles. The war in Ukraine is a matter of survival and sometimes you have to make a deal with the devil if you want to win.

  7. Wow, I am really perplexed as an online political advocate who loves talking about countries that have nothing to do with me. Am I allowed to root for Israel in this scenario?

  8. I wished he would shut up and stop sharing information, why let the enemy know your secrets.

  9. We need to move away from surface to air defense systems. The future is a mixture of both but must be drone to drone capability as the main focus. This idea that an overwhelming missiles defense being reasonably achievable or affordable defense strategy needs to change.

The future is drones. Millions of drones.

  10. On one hand, great!

On the other, i wonder how activists will respond to this move. Would they become more anti-Ukraine if Israel is helping them or would they accept the move since now the weapon isn’t used in Israel?

  11. Israel should share their other air defense missile too.

  12. Patriot might be good for shooting down aircraft, or ballistic missiles, not so much against drones. You just can’t fire enough of them fast enough, and each missile is way more expensive than a drone. Israel has just finished developing a laser based system, that can shoot down multiple drones a minute, at an advertised cost of $3 a shot. I wonder if they’ll let Ukraine test it.

  13. Love how any comment that gives Israel ANY benefit of the doubt is getting removed but comments like “Kind of like how Hitler sent the west a few gifts” are perfectly fine. Let’s see if this one gets removed again, because I felt this was a poignant, non-inflammatory, and ultimately true statement:

    >Ukraine and Israel both face existential threats (Russia and Islamic extremists respectively) that deny their sovereignty and existence.

    >The only difference is that Israel is winning and Ukraine is severely undermanned against Russia. They have a lot in common and it makes sense they are actively cooperating and supporting each other.

  14. How much does the patriot protect in terms of amount of engagement. Say a drone attack by Russia of 20+ Shaheds? Or is it exclusively for cruise missiles and planes/bombers?

  15. As it should be, Russia are funding Iran makes sense for Israel to back ukraine

  16. when the worst person you know actually does something good for once (good intentions or not)

  17. Ukraine is so desperate they’re willing to work with Israel, war criminals and genocidal maniacs

  18. So we are still indirectly funding Ukraine, sweet. I’d rather them have it than Israel.
