Or just use an ad-blocker, they’ve been around for 20 years.
The enshittification continues.
Thing is, the rest of the user experience is so terrible it doesn’t really matter if you have to deal with ads.
I downloaded Instagram after mostly avoiding social media for the past decade, and I’m not sure if it’s because I just don’t have many followers / following, but basically every single post appeared to be someone trying to sell me something
It will remove native ads, but it would also have to remove alogrothm-suggested influencers, clickbait, etc. for me to be remotely interested. Even then, everyone I care about stopped using them because they’re so crap anyway so I can’t imagine who this is for.
I save myself £2.99 by not using Facebook or Instagram.
Will it block all the awful red pill/blue pill ai slop? Thought not
Isn’t Instagram just an advertising platform with some wannabes photo albums sprinkled throughout?
Pay for something you don’t want? Peak capitalism…
so far.
Just VPN through a Country that doesn’t allow Internet ads. Boom – all gone.
If I didn’t see adds I would see nothing most days. As hardly any of my friends post on FB anymore
I don’t think by purchasing a subscription to ensure companies keep your data safe is ethical.
Y’all should spend 30 minutes reading up on DNS blockers and VPNs
In all honesty this might be the nail in the coffin for me and many others.
As I know many people will just opt out.
Stop ads *and* data harvesting? sure.
But im not entierly keen on paying and *still* being the product.
Who the fuck uses Facebook anymore?
Instagram is just pure crack for narcissists, of which I have no doubt they have skyrocketed since social media has formed.
Hopefully the switch will flip for most soon.
Ironic most of the ‘unite the kingdom” mob spout they don’t want to be ‘controlled’ by ID cards etc, yet seem to be completely unaware of what social media is doing to their brain and coercing their decision making.
Reddit it just as bad, yet at least (I assume) it’s real people posting words. Not posing as a friend-connecting network, where none of your friends actually post anything anymore, but the content is still flying around daily…
Got a PiHole running on a Raspberry Pi on my home network – almost zero ads, on any site or app, on any device on my home network. I could set it up as a VPN too, and connect to it from my mobile so I don’t get ads whilst away from home.
It will remove all the invasive tracking and data collection as well right?
There won’t be anything left of Facebook without ass
Edit! No idea why advert autocorrected to ass!!!
I love how the tabloids are reports this, all while doing the exact same thing themselves
Oh thank fuck i don’t use that shit.
Im aware im posting on reddit
Of all the issues I have with Facebook and Instagram, ads are not one. The Facebook platforms are just about the only platform that regularly show me ads that I click on. Whether it’s concert tickets, health products, clothes, holidays/travel. I see adverts that I like the look of on a daily basis on FB/IG and regularly end up buying products from there.
Whereas I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on an ad on Reddit, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, or YouTube, as they don’t show me anything relevant.
I don’t know how Meta’s algorithms work but they seem to know me much much better than the other social media platforms. I see the ads more as a feature on FB/IG and wouldn’t disable them if it was free. I actually like being shown ads for funky clothes that fit my niche of style, or being shown ads for a band that I like.
My favourite add block – I check these shitty apps maybe once a month.
Put ads in my content all you like. I will however, out of principle never purchase your shitty product out of spite.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha
Oh you’re serious?
Hahahahahahahaha
2.99. Doesn’t sound much does it? But that’s where it starts.
they implement this shit to get you the fuck off a service they dont want to run.
you pay for it because we dont want to anymore
That’s how it starts and then they will introduce ads into the paid subscription with a higher tier without ads.
Or just delete it and skip on happily with my life
Oh no! Anyway…
Hopefully this convinces more people to stop using them.
The sad thing is, I would have paid a small subscription 10 years ago. Now I know it’s a cynical attempt to extract money. Serves you right you greedy bastards!
