September the 28th, 2025 – Jadrolinija has had an excellent first 8 months of the year, with 9.5 million passengers transported in 2025 so far.
As Morski writes, Jadrolinija transported 9.5 million passengers in the first eight months of this year, which is at the same level as last year, as well as 2.8 million vehicles, which represented a two percent increase.
When asked about the company’s expected financial result this year, the Jadrolinija Management Board emphasised that, although the financial result is not the only indicator of success, it contributes to stable business operations.
“It should be taken into account that in the coming period, significant funds will be directed to the renewal and maintenance of the fleet and increasing safety in all aspects, which are the company’s strategic priorities. Such goals require investments that ensure greater competitiveness and sustainability of the business in the long term,” Jadrolinija stated.
When asked about significant problems and malfunctions during the main tourist season, when traffic is significantly increased, the Management Board replied that there were no significant malfunctions that would cause long-term interruptions and that all technical difficulties were resolved on the ground or by providing replacement vessels as soon as possible.
They also emphasised that they are satisfied with the summer season and that it should be taken into account that almost half of the total annual traffic, more than 6 million passengers in total, was transported during the season, which is a great burden for both the crews and the ships.
On the most frequent sailing lines, sailing takes place continuously, 24 hours a day. During the peak of the summer season there are up to 600 departures per day, with additional departures introduced as needed.
Responding to the question about fleet maintenance and whether maintenance funds have been increased, Jadrolinija revealed that the increase in the price of raw materials and general market costs has also been reflected in the maintenance costs of the ships, which are constantly increasing. Despite this, Jadrolinija is investing significant funds to ensure the highest level of safety and technical correctness for all 58 vessels, and maintenance and regular overhauls are among the company’s largest expenses. Regarding increasing safety, they state that after the appointment of the new management back in February, increasing and improving safety was set as one of the company’s strategic priorities.
They stated that the maritime safety service has been strengthened in terms of personnel, and additional measures have been adopted to increase the level of safety on all ships. Constant, high-quality and transparent communication has been established between the mainland and the ship, as well as with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure.
Regarding the procurement of new ships, Jadrolinija has revealed that it has plans to scrap its older vessels and replace them with more modern and environmentally friendly versions.
“The focus is currently on the procurement of double-sided ferries powered by bio-diesel or dual propulsion, depending on available technical solutions and financing models, as well as on passenger ships powered by alternative energy sources. The white fleet development strategy includes the implementation of green technologies, in line with national and EU goals for the de-carbonisation of maritime transport,” Jadrolinija stated.
Jadrolinija’s fleet is now on average 27.8 years old, which, they say, is less than the European average of 33 years. It currently employs about two thousand people, of which about 200 are seasonal.
