  1. With uncompetitive pay, crumbling infrastructure, expensive housing and dismal job market?

  2. Canada already doesn’t have enough jobs for the tech workers they have.

  3. What the fuck? How about lure back all the Canadian talent that went to the US because pay and taxes in Canada are fucking atrocious.

  4. Yes, more immigration! That is exactly what Canada needs right now! It’s not like the biggest social issue in Canada is mass immigration!!

  5. With unemployment hovering around 8%, this will really please the Canadian population.

  6. Our Computer Science and Engineering graduates have a horrible job market right now. Enough is enough.

  7. So if you look at who actually took the visas it’s extreme biased low skilled people who hurts the economy because it forces prices to drop.

In San Francisco California a big percentage was Indian companies hiring only people from India to compete with local talent.

How does that improve the lives of local workers?

The Indian foreign company just pocketed the difference.

  8. Can we stop importing Indians and focus on our people first?

  9. And do what with them? The tech job market is so fucked right now

  10. Can we not fuck over Canadian tech workers in the process?

  11. Canada tech jobs woefully underpay compared to the US. I already struggle to find anything for experienced tech in Canada, there is no chance of this happening unless you want all the workers with little talent or experience

  12. I am not a Canadian or know much about their politics but let me guess……

Local people who have finished university struggle with finding jobs, often not being able too due lack of experience, yet companies and politicians are claiming that we need more workers in those fields?

  13. So more people from India. Let’s see how that plays out for Carney.

  14. Nice. One thing every Canadian I’ve talked with mentioned is that they really want more immigration. /s

Seems it’s all about decimating the middle class, won’t be allowed to exist anymore.

  15. Bodies bodies bodies bodies. Is that the only fucking idea these crooks have? Let’s just throw more bodies at our gdp that will make it grow… If making Canadian life shittier was a crime they’d be hung.

  16. You can tell who works in tech and who doesn’t based on how they talk about H1B’s, and that includes politicians.

The definition of H1B sounds great. Bring in the top talent which we may be missing? Sounds great!

But 90% of the time it’s used to bring in aggressively mediocre programmers (or management, for some reason?) who will work for 30% less pay and take any crap from their employers because if they don’t they’ll be fired and lose their visa.

It increases new-grad unemployment and depresses wages of experienced workers. Canada nor the US has any shortage of people with these skills.

I get it, Trump is trying to kill the program for racist reasons. But H1B needs reform for multiple valid reasons and Canada would be a fool to walk into this boondoggle, too. And I’m sure the Canadian people will probably not appreciate it either, given their reception to the immigration policies of the previous administration

  17. I can speak on this as a comp sci major living in BC. never found any co-op positions and had to graduate without one. I know of straight A+ students who didnt find one as well and I also know of students with tons of co-op and research experience struggling to find a full time job too.

tldr tech is cooked in Canada

  18. Canada does not have anywhere enough high tech businesses to hire them!
