Identical situation but on buses was called by us students “windsurfing”… dangling from the side of the bus, holding on to a vertical metal bar, with body leaning out at 45 degrees angle… with wind… it really was similar. Not as pleasant, though during winter in -25C…
I wasn’t born back then, but whoever has nostalgia for those times, they likely miss their youthful years, not the period itself, since the 80’s (and 90’s) were pretty rough in Romania.
What I really want to say is that never in its history Romania hasn’t been as prosperous as it is now within the embrace of the European Union, so thank you for having us, we’ll play our part as well!
Damn that looks like so much fun
India-Lite
Why is it always 83 or something very near. Hmmmmm. Or maybe I’m just seeing things. I was born in that era ;D
Some things were better. Some were worse. This tram definitely was worse.
So it was India then
I assume the tram wasn’t going very fast, but that doesn’t look safe.
The joys of communism
This photo wasn’t taken in Bucharest. This was posted on r/bucuresti also, and someone commented that the colour of the tram is wrong. This is from Chișinău, Moldova. He said the passengers were mostly students and old people from outside of town going to a clinic. The waiting times were very long, long enough to risk your life.
I’m not saying Bucharest was different.
Also it might be where Jean-Claude Van Damme started training for his split.
Just as I was about to write this is just a ridiculous stunt piece, I had a crazy memory blast, not tram (those didn’t exist in my hometown), but I remembered that when I was a kids (late 90s/early 2000s), I would regularly see dudes standing on those bus stairs with the door open. When the bus was too full. We used to be crazy huh? Well, crazier than now.
