  1. By group:

3 from Volkswagen AG (3 from Volkswagen)

3 from Renault Group (2 from Dacia and 1 from Renault)

    2 from Toyota

    1 from Hyundai

    1 from Stellantis (Opel/Vauxhall)

  2. Great statistic when the available diesel/petrol engine choices are a joke.

  3. America needs models like these. Sigh. Would eat up that Yaris Cross in a heartbeat.

  4. I think this shows how easy it is for car enthusiasts to become completely out of touch with what people want.

I wouldn’t have thought for a second anyone would want a T-Roc or Yaris Cross when the Golf and Yaris exist.

I’d also love to know who is buying the Corsa. Is it some mass fleet purchase? Is there somewhere where there’s a particular reason they sell? In a crowded market what makes someone decide to buy a Corsa?

  5. Hate those SUVs. Why do people buy those? Expensive, way too large, … I don‘t get it.

  6. they are asking to much money, they can sell more than that, but they need to change the interior aesthetics

  7. What is with the SUV hate? The minority here dont seem to understand that they’re practical.

  8. Here is the caption for we who aren’t knowledgable in the automotive industry :

    * ICE : Internal Combustion Engine
    * MHEV : Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (runs like a HEV, but can’t run on electric power alone)
    * BEV : Battery Electric Vehicle
    * HEV : Hybrid Electric Vehicle
    * PHEV : Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Some key points for those who didn’t read the article :

    >New passenger vehicle registrations in Europe increased by 5% in August 2025 to 790,000 cars but sales volumes remained below 2023 levels. Battery electric vehicle sales grew 27% for a record 20.2% market share.
[…] Chinese brands more than doubled sales, with MG and BYD leading strong gains that placed them ahead of several established marques.
[…] The market share of SUVs increased to 57%, which makes the vaguely-defined category increasingly meaningless.
[…] By brand, MG registered more new cars than both Tesla and Fiat in August 2025. BYD was ahead of Suzuki and Jeep, and Jaecoo and Omoda outsold brands including Alfa Romeo and Mitsubishi. “European consumers are responding positively to the growing, competitive line-up from China’s car brands,” Munoz continued. “It appears that these brands have successfully tackled the perception and awareness issues they have experienced.”

Without surprise, with the US internal market closing to PRC goods, the flow is redirected to the EU’s.

  9. For those who also think it’s not obvious:

    – ICE: Internal Combustion Engine
    – MHEV: Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle
    – BEV: Battery Electric Vehicle
    – HEV: Hybrid Electric Vehicle
    – PHEV: Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

  10. I am actually pleasantly surprised by the hatchbacks. I love small, compact hatchs and I get a lot of raised eyebrows for it

  11. Still, BEV’s represented 20% of all new sold cars, which is a 4% increase from August last year. It just does not come up in this graph.

  12. I am a member of “I hate the SUVization of motorization” club. For safety reasons

  13. We’ve got a Citroen C3 Aircross MHEV on order right now. Really like their new model, though partly because it’s convenient since we lease and were already with Stellantis anyway.

  14. Y’all remember when the Tesla Model 3 then Model Y were the best selling cars in Europe? Well yeah that ain’t never coming back

  15. So only one Stellantis brand? Maybe they should make better looking cars and improve quality if they want to survive.

  16. I think I’ve only seen like 3 or 4 of these car models

  17. No surprise here. These cars are everywhere. They are more affordable and comfortable than than station wagons.

  18. This is very regional. This in no way reflects reality in Scandinavian countries. I can only assume ppl in Germany, Spain, France, and other countries with many inhabitants have this rather different constellation

  19. I have a petrol / Hybrid Tuscon and I love it. It’s a company car I have to give back soon after having it for 4 years. I have to move to full electric for my next car and they are giving me a Kia Niro. Not happy.

  20. Sad to see so little electric vehicles. Buying an expensive ICE or hybrid today is just buying obsolete hardware

  21. I own a BEV for almost 6 years now. Practically no loss of battery capacity, have done multiple long distances through Europe which were unproblematic when prepared beforehand, the car is very cheap both in electricity and maintenance and it is a joy to drive.

I cannot understand why people are still buying smelly stinky dirty and loud ICE cars.
