Amreya Petroleum Refining Company (APRC) is implementing over EGP 2 billion worth of projects to increase the production and storage capacity of petroleum products, according to Chairman Mohamed Sobhy.
Sobhy gave these statements during a field visit of Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to the company’s headquarters in Alexandria,
Badawi reviewed APRC’s development and modernisation projects, which aim to boost its production complexes to enhance the output of gasoline, butane, and lubricants, alongside other products used in various industries. He praised the workforce’s efforts and called for highlighting successful cases in the sector as examples for others to follow, urging wider opportunities for women in refinery operations.
Sobhy explained that the company’s top projects include the restart of a 5,000 cubic meter per hour (cm/hr) hydrogen production unit after a 13-year halt, upgrading the aromatics complex to add 100,000 tons of gasoline annually, starting the production of benzol, improving liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) recovery rate, and the construction of a 12 km cooling water pipeline.
APRC has carried out energy rationalization measures, saving around EGP 34 million annually. This was the result of introducing upgrades to the steam network, ensuring better thermal insulation, and carrying out regular maintenance of the heat exchanger.
Throughout fiscal year 2024/2025, the company produced about 3 million tons of petroleum products. It exported products valued at $36 million, including crude wax, alkyl benzene, and distillates. The company also supplied 1.1 million tons of industrial operational needs to other petroleum companies to maximize added value.
