‘Nearly 230,000 private renters have been served with so-called Section 21 evictions since 2019 – also known as a ‘no-fault eviction’ notice – meaning they have just two months to leave the property’
damn, that private renter must be a real arse to get kicked out so much
Really, Carl had no work for 2 years, doesn’t mention if he actually paid any rent from the benefits he would have recieved. Someone might have gone 2 yrs with no income, still paying the mortgage, facing eviction themselves.
The nature of contracts is that either party can terminate them as per their terms, without having any reason other than wanting to.
How many of these notices are served to kick the tenant out and get another one at a higher price I wonder.
Maybe, does that include council landlords? Housing associations? Or just small btl landlords? Assuming the people with massive portfolios are incorporated so same as first 2 categories.
Presumably the owners of the property wanted to do something with their property.
My assumption, not predjudie, based on the facts available and that im not a gullible fool. The bailiffs came! 🙂 would the LL spend thousands on legal fees if he was paying rent still just for a couple hundred quid a month extra when a new tenant was in, don’t make me laugh 😆
Tough shit. They’ve signed a contract where these are the terms. That’s the nature of renting.
2 months is easily long enough to find another place.
I know this won’t garner any support, I know most of you don’t give a fuck about landlords.
Yet you wonder why they don’t care about renters.
I’m in my 50s and have been renting most of my life, and will be renting for the rest of it too.
In my experience, most landlords are pretty decent but there are some real cowboys out there too. And letting agents can be real scumbags.
There should be a ratings website for landlords, where tenants can recommend good landlords and agents, and warn of bad ones.
I was told I was being served with a Section 21 whilst 4 months into a 12 month tenancy (with no break clause). Because my landlord wanted to sell his house
Two separate parties, the landlord and the letting agent, both contacted me saying I have been given my notice to move out
Was very satisfying telling them to have a proper read through the contract and then come back to me on why they think they have any right to serve me a Section 21
8 months later, I still don’t know whether that was caused by pure incompetence, or maliciously thinking they could trick me into moving out early
Careful: using no fault eviction is just easier. So if you have a problem tenant it’s the default option. Why would you use at fault evictions when they’re more complex and harder and slower and more expensive?
It’s another good reason to make it much harder to be a private landlord. Protection for renters is shit and it makes renting much more of a gamble as plenty of landlords are more than happy to evict people for no reason and with no notice.
I mean I just sold a house I inherited that had a renter. This is not always a nasty thing, part of being a renter is understanding you might need to move.
I gave them their notice and that was that.
