Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask about this, but I wanted some advice regarding my Monatsliste as an Azubi. It wasn’t explained to me why I have “Minusstunden.” The days I didn’t work were days I was waiting for approval from the Ausländerbehörde. I was specifically instructed by the ABH not to work, because it would have been illegal to do so before my application was approved.

On the day I received the approval, I immediately emailed my manager to let her know I could start working. I then worked the following day.

I received my full salary for August, but now my boss is asking me to work overtime to make up for the negative hours. This would mean I wouldn’t have any days off for two weeks.

Is this really how it should work? I would have preferred receiving a reduced salary rather than being required to make up hours that I could not legally work. I appreciate any advice or guidance on this.

  1. ~~You working a six-day week? Or a five-day week?~~

~~You getting -6:15 hours every week because the system thinks you should’ve worked, but you did not. Depending on how many workdays you should’ve this could mean someone set the time tracking up wrongly.~~

Ignore that. How many hours per week does your contract say?

  2. You got your full salary right ?
Then they might have asked you to work for the time they paid you for but you didn’t actually work

  3. Ask them if they can reduce the salary for this month to cover the minus hours. There could also be the possibility to spread the minus hour reduction over a longer time, which could be easier for you.

Of course, they should have asked, but giving you the whole salary was IMHO, a nice move by your employer. It is like a free credit.

  4. Usually, in my experience, people to keep their normal salary while having Minusstunden on the one hand and get an additional paid free day when they have Plusstunden.

And I suppose it makes sense, especially the first part: Generally, people can much better afford to work a couple of hours more in order to get back to zero and can certainly not afford a dent in their monthly pay.

Depending on what the employer has more to spare – employee hours or money, both can make sense to them.

  5. Hi there,

Talk to them again and discuss how you can get rid of the Minusstunden without working more.

  6. im assuming your company works on a gleitzeit basis which means you get your fixed salary regardless of how many hours you worked and if you have plus/minus hours it‘s on you to even it out. you don‘t legally have to even them out right away and you can do so over a longer period of time instead of working everyday for two weeks but let your employer know

  7. My experience:
You got a full salary and minusstunden for this month. If there’s more work in December and November for example your employe will let you work more then usual due to your minusstunden let’s say 3 hours more in November and 3 hours more in December. If your contract ends and you still got minusstunden they will be removed from your last month working salary. (Please also read your contract and look if there’s something written about it and talk with your manager about it) 🙂
