Inland Spain is plateau, high elevation and drier climate, not suitable for high population density.
Bangladesh is on another contrary: plain, low elevation, mouth of river, warm and humid, high population density.
In Europe, Netherlands and Po river basin have highest population density (apart from some microstates) because these two geographic regions are plain and of low elevation.
Compared to Ireland, Spain’s population density is reasonable, because Ireland is a country of low elevation, plain, plenty of rain, and its population density is even lower than Spain.
That empty land would be great for solar power generation, I bet even a fraction of it with solar panels would be enough to power most of Europe.
