  6. Two 23-year-old men have taken a stolen tram on a tour through Braunschweig. They had stolen the tram from a depot early Thursday morning, a police spokesman said Friday. Then they had followed the switches first to the Weststadt and from there back to the city center. First the “Braunschweiger newspaper” had reported on the incident.

    According to the information, the young men stopped at the city hall, two passengers got on. One stop later, they had stopped because a maintenance vehicle had come towards them.

The police investigate now because of disturbance of public enterprises, driving without driving license, dangerous interference with rail traffic and trespassing. No one was injured during the exit, nor was the train damaged, according to the police spokesman.

    It is not the first case of this kind: In April 2021, two teenagers – an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old – hijacked a streetcar in Bremen and drove it a good two kilometers through the city. The two had gained access to the streetcar at a terminal stop, and the older one got behind the wheel. No one was injured then either.
