Hey all! With all the recent talk about reconciliation, one thing that rarely gets brought up is that the next Invictus Games will be held in the UK, in Birmingham, in 2027.
There’s no official rule saying the host country has to involve its royals or heads of state, but it seems to be the norm. In 2022, King Willem-Alexander attended the closing ceremony in the Netherlands, and Princess Margriet attended the opening ceremony (She actually was Honorary Chair of the Advisory Committee of the games) In 2025, in Vancouver, Justin Trudeau and Prince Joachim both made appearances.
Soooo…will the BRF attend in 2027?
There’s already been rumours saying that senior royals may be invited, though nothing confirmed. At the same time, tabloids have run every version of the story: that William would never attend, that Harry hasn’t invited him, etc.
It’s worth pointing out that the invitations come from the Birmingham 2027 organisers, not from Harry directly.
There are a few other details too, like the closing ceremony is reportedly scheduled on Queen Camilla’s birthday. And in 2024, during the Invictus 10 years service in London, Harry (reportedly) invited the senior royals but none of them attended – Kate was still recovering from surgery, William had another event at Windsor Castle and Charles was hosting a garden party, which was attended by other royals.
Meghan hasn’t been to the UK since 2022, when she was there for charity/speaking engagements that happened to coincide with the Queen’s death. But she has attended every Invictus Games since she and Harry started dating. Their children, however, have never attended.
So: do you think the BRF will show up? Will Meghan go? Would this be the first time the kids attend? Do you think Harry’s reconciliation efforts could be connected to hoping royals will attend?
Still a long time to go, and plenty of space for drama in between, but I’m curious to what you guys think

It’s going to be a bad look for the BRF if Charles doesn’t show. I doubt Meghan or the kids attend and I am not sure William would be welcome
Maybe Anne or Sophie or Edward will show up. But I really think King has to show up as it is for veterans. I think he will. It is still 2 years ahead, so there is time.
Beatrice, Eugenie and Zara with Sophie at the opening ceremony might due
Meghan is damned if she does damned if she doesn’t. If she goes she’ll somehow be accused of making it about herself even though it’s the press that obsessively reports on everything she wears and does while there. All she does is support Harry and veterans and attend events, which is what you’d expect the wife of the patron and founder to do. The veterans are always happy to meet her and the post about on social media afterward. She always leaves halfway through to return to the kids because it’s Harry’s thing.
If she doesn’t go she’ll somehow be accused of not supporting Harry and there will be articles about how much she hates the UK and how their marriage must be in trouble. The daily mail published an article written by a psychiatrist claiming their marriage was in trouble because Meghan didn’t post about the Sentebale issue …..
That is two years away. I don’t know why this group started showing up in my feed.
I think the least messy option is to have Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence go, especially since they do lots of military and veteran events. Timothy isn’t an official working royal, but he tags along with Anne often anyway and he himself had a long career in the navy.
I think William will schedule something and literally just leave the country. I don’t think he’d want to deal with the will they won’t they and it’s the easiest way out of it
If King Charles were actually a strong patriarch, effective monarch and the loving grandfather he claims to be, he would see Invictus 2027 as an opportunity to bring his family together. The smart thing for him to do would be to attend the opening ceremonies as a show of support for not just his son but an organization that is doing a lot for British veterans and the city of Birmingham. Charles is the head of the armed forces after all. He should offer Frogmore cottage and arrange security for Harry and his family (court docs show he has the power to influence this)so that his grandchildren can attend and have a safe place to stay. They’ll be 8 and 6, perfect ages for their first Invictus games. William will probably still be incandescent with rage so he and Kate will probably be “working” harder than they’ve ever worked trying to appear busy.
Tbh, it’s so far away that it’s impossible to say. Maybe there will be a shift in familial relationships before then that will change everything.
Perhaps two more years of tea and biscuit meetings will pave the way for Charles to come, I would imagine that is Harry’s hope at least. William I bet will be somewhere far away.
I think Anne, Edward and/or Sophie will attend some events. Charles/BP will have a social media post. William will be out of the country. I can’t guess if Meghan and the kids will go.
Meghan and the kids almost certainly won’t be there because I can’t see the UK government budging on 24/7 security and Harry and Meghan have set that as a boundary for bringing the kids to the UK.
Good for them. Say what you want about them but they really seem to care about their kids security and that’s commendable
