Anadolu Efes vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Preview

Anadolu Efes finished last season on a high note, winning their final eight EuroLeague games to clinch a play-in spot and then advancing to the playoffs, where they put up a strong fight against Panathinaikos before being eliminated 3–2 in the series. The team went through numerous changes over the summer, but it’s clear the roster has been rebuilt to make a bigger push, maximizing everything Shane Larkin still has to offer. He proved his form at EuroBasket 2025, where he led his national team to a silver medal.

The most notable departures were Darius Thompson, Derek Willis, Elijah Bryant, and Dan Oturu, but Efes addressed those gaps with quality reinforcements. Isaia Cordinier came in, along with Jordan Loyd, while Sehmus Hazer was also added—a player who has already shown he can be a great fit next to Larkin, as we saw at EuroBasket. Efes also brought in the duo of Brice Dessert and Cole Swider, as well as last season’s EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year, Nick Weiler-Babb. On top of that, the team is now led by head coach Igor Kokoskov, which raises expectations even further. The only downside heading into the season is the injury to Vincent Poirier, who will be sidelined until January—leaving Efes shorthanded at the center position.

Maccabi Tel Aviv, meanwhile, had a turbulent campaign last season. Constant roster changes and a lack of continuity plagued the team, and they finished with an 11–23 record. While that may look poor on paper, they still managed to upset stronger teams at times and often lost in close finishes. Like most EuroLeague clubs, they also reshaped their roster during the offseason. The biggest losses were Rokas Jokubaitis, Jasiel Rivero, and Levi Randolph, but the club found suitable replacements.

The marquee addition is Lonnie Walker, who struggled to fit in with Zalgiris but looks perfectly suited for Maccabi’s run-and-gun style, which emphasizes transition offense and plenty of three-point shooting. Another key move was keeping Jaylen Hoard, who turned down multiple EuroLeague offers and remains one of the most dynamic forwards in the competition. Roman Sorkin continues to be a reliable threat from beyond the arc, and his EuroBasket performances even drew interest from three NBA franchises. Jeff Dowtin Jr. brings serious quality to the backcourt, while Oshae Brissett is another strong addition. Considering the up-tempo style that head coach Oded Kattash has enforced since taking over, everything looks promising on paper—it just remains to be seen how it all comes together on the court.

Anadolu Efes vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Since this game is being played on a neutral court in Podgorica, the home-court advantage that would normally favor Anadolu Efes in Istanbul cannot be considered here. Efes’ roster is not nine points better than Maccabi Tel Aviv on neutral ground, especially given that several of the Turkish team’s players joined late due to EuroBasket commitments, which was evident in their struggles during preseason. At the same time, Maccabi Tel Aviv holds an advantage in the frontcourt, particularly with Vincent Poirier unavailable for Efes. Because of that, we expect the Israeli side to cover the spread and avoid losing by more than the given margin.
