The 2nd Conference of the Women’s Council of the Union of Municipalities of North and East Syria was held in Hesekê under the slogan “Women are the Power of Society in the Construction of Democratic Municipalities.” The conference was attended by 150 delegates, along with representatives of the Autonomous Administration, Kongra Star, and various political parties.

Speaking at the conference, Foza Yusif, a member of the PYD (Democratic Union Party) Presidency Council, assessed the current political situation and said that the inflammatory news reports in media outlets close to the Transitional Government served the agenda of external powers.

Foza Yusif stated that the Transitional Government must end its policy of exclusion and fragmentation. She emphasized that a possible new war in Syria would divide the people, while dialogue is the only path to a solution. She continued: “A decentralized democratic system will secure the identities and rights of the Syrian people and preserve the unity of the country. Imposing a centralized system is like detonating a bomb. When it explodes, Syria and its people will be divided. Dialogue is the path to a solution. Without dialogue, there can be no solution; without a solution, war is inevitable.”

Referring to the March 10 Agreement signed between the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and the Syrian Transitional Government, Foza Yusif said that the Autonomous Administration had been preparing its committees for two months and had called on the Transitional Government to hold talks.

Yusif stated that the Transitional Government had not responded to the calls, saying, “We are ready for dialogue from all sides. What matters is not where we gather, but to be able to sit at the same table and talk. Women should play their role in every area of life, in all meetings and platforms. All women, especially those in North and East Syria, should unite their efforts and increase their joint struggle to prevent radical policies. Only in this way can we construct the Democratic Syrian Republic by building democratic politics.”
