WANA (Sep 29) – The Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced the execution of Bahman Choobi Asl on charges of espionage.

According to the Judiciary’s Media Centre:

Bahman Choobi Asl, son of Hassan, who had extensive and deliberate cooperation with the intelligence service of the Israeli regime in the field of databases, was hanged this morning following the completion of legal proceedings.

Choobi Asl was a specialist in the field of databases and had gained access to sensitive telecommunications projects in the country through his involvement in a knowledge-based company.

Due to his expertise, he held a managerial position in all of the company’s projects and had high-level access to the country’s vital and governmental databases.

Formation of Contact with the Intelligence Service

After receiving his professional degree in databases, Bahman Choobi was reportedly approached by Mossad agents during a specialised course in one of the Persian Gulf countries.

Later, a Mossad officer, operating under the cover of a company named ESMI, contacted Choobi via a phone interview, inviting him to collaborate on database-related projects.

Initially invited to Armenia under the pretext of discussing technical cooperation, the travel destination was later changed to India. He was instructed to bring his laptop, which he used for project-related work. According to Choobi’s own statements, he travelled with his laptop to India.

During the trip, the cover company’s director (a Mossad officer) interrogated Choobi for intelligence, assessed his level of access and technical skills, paid for his travel expenses, and provided him with a reward. He was then tasked with attending technical training courses to improve his skills.

Subsequently, the Mossad officer invited Choobi to Ireland, where he stayed for about 45 days, receiving specialised training. During this time, a new individual fluent in Persian was introduced to him. In multiple intelligence meetings, Choobi was interrogated and evaluated regarding his expertise, sensitive ongoing projects, and Iran’s database processes and infrastructure. All costs were covered by Mossad.

Mossad’s Intelligence Requirements

In his confessions, Choobi listed some of the Mossad’s demands, which included:

Gaining access to the data centre systems of various institutions
Contact with companies active in electronics and databases
Information on sensitive and infrastructure-related projects
Connections with key individuals in the database and Oracle fields

Missions Assigned by Mossad

Mossad’s main objective in recruiting Choobi was to access the database systems of Iranian government institutions and infiltrate the country’s data centres. Secondary goals included tracking the import routes of electronic equipment.

Choobi confessed that the Mossad officer told him they could sell hardware to Iran and requested that he speak to his CEO about sourcing hardware from them or introduce them to a company active in the hardware sector.

One of Mossad’s sabotage tactics, as noted, is to contact individuals and companies in technical fields and sell them faulty or compromised equipment, which, once installed, would disrupt operations in the targeted technical departments — similar to past sabotage in Iran’s nuclear industry.

Mossad Training Provided to Choobi

Training on using the “Red Windows” system, microSD cards, and USB drives
Receiving an instructional file via a secure system for transmitting information
Methods of communicating with Mossad through public platforms

In exchange for sending information, Choobi reportedly received payments for travel, accommodation, language and technical training, mission fees, and rewards.

According to case details, Mossad officers entrusted Choobi to the extent that they met with him in a safe house and even used him to interview and assess another of their assets in the technical field.

In one of the trips, a Mossad chief personally met with Choobi and expressed satisfaction with his work. Subsequently, he was given the latest and most advanced version of the “Red Windows” system.

Security reports state that the tools given to Choobi by Mossad were among the most advanced, typically reserved for high-level and trusted agents. Over the course of his collaboration, he received various generations of these tools in face-to-face meetings.

Scope of Activities

Choobi’s collaboration included:
63 in-person meetings across 9 international trips
95 remote communications with Mossad officers
Receipt of advanced spy equipment and secure communication systems

The countries where in-person meetings occurred included the UAE, Armenia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Ireland, and Bulgaria.

After his arrest and completion of investigations, the case was sent to court with charges of espionage for a foreign intelligence service against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the receipt of payment and intelligence cooperation with the Israeli regime’s service.

Following a trial with the presence of Choobi’s lawyer and a legal process reviewing all evidence, the court issued a death sentence for “corruption on earth” (*efsad fel-arz*) through intelligence cooperation with the intelligence agency of the Israeli regime.

Upon appeal, the case was sent to the Supreme Court, which rejected the appeal and upheld the sentence.

The execution was carried out this morning following confirmation by the Supreme Court.
