Buzau Land UNESCO Global Geopark, first region of Romania included on Google Arts platform
Buzau Land UNESCO Global Geopark was included by Google on Google Arts & Culture platform, thus becoming the first region in Romania represented with a collection that capitalises on its natural and cultural heritage.
According to the geopark representatives, the selection of the Buzau Land as part of the platform will lead to a significant increase in Google searches about the region, together with museums, cities and heritage sites worldwide.
‘The Google Arts collection devoted to the Buzau Land, which can be accessed here, presents spectacular photographs and multimedia materials with the most important geological and cultural phenomena of the region: the mud volcanoes – the largest in Europe, the salt domes, the living fires, the Ulmet sandstone concretions, the red amber of Colti and the cave settlements. At the same time, the collection captures the connection between landscape and local culture, through myths and legends passed on from generation to generation. Besides the exposure which the communities in this land can enjoy, the area is also prioritised in Google Search and Google Images results, which enhances its online visibility.
‘Its inclusion in the platform is a form of acknowledgement of our local heritage and mostly of the manner in which we capitalise on it, as well as a direct consequence of including the Buzau Land in the network of UNESCO Geoparks and all the extraordinary things this status has brought about. It is a great opportunity to integrate this heritage in a digital global circuit, accessible to anyone, from any corner of the world. This selection honours us and compels us to continue to invest to responsibly promote this unique region,’ Geopark Manager Razvan-Gabriel Popa said.
Google Arts & Culture is one of the most important digital platforms promoting cultural heritage, with millions of active users worldwide.
Buzau Land UNESCO Global Geopark is the result of the partnership among the Buzau Land Association (NGO), the Buzau County Council and the University of Bucharest. AGERPRES (RO – writing by: Florin Zafiu; EN – writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
