The fourth season of Finland’s animated TV series Moominvalley (Moominlaakso in Finnish) has been nominated for an international Emmy Award by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In its announcement, the academy revealed 64 nominees from 26 countries across 16 categories.

This year marked the second time that Moominvalley has received an Emmy nod — it was first nominated in 2020.

Moominvalley is the latest in a number of animated series about Finland’s beloved Moomin family and cast of peculiar characters.

The series is jointly produced by the Finnish firm Gusty Animations and Yle, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. In the Finnish version, Moominvalley’s characters are voiced by actors including Joonas Nordman, Satu Silvio and Olavi Uusivirta.

When the series began in 2019, it was reportedly Finland’s most expensive TV production.

Moominvalley can be seen on Yle’s multimedia streaming platform Areena.

Best actor nomination

Finnish actor Maria Sid was also nominated for an international Emmy, in the best female actor category, for her work in the Swedish series Pressure Point (Smärtpunkten in Swedish).

The series is about a playwright and producer who decided to develop a play featuring inmates at a high-security prison — but their aim to help rehabilitate their imprisoned actors doesn’t go as planned.

This year’s Emmy gala is scheduled to be held in New York City on Monday, 24 November.
