Starmerite pressure group Labour Together is claiming that small boat migrant crossings are ‘fairly small.’ These are the people driving current Labour policy thinking…

Labour Together’s Director of Research, Christabel Cooper, told a Labour Conference panel event:

“It is the aspect of immigration that people focus on. We know in reality that the numbers are fairly small, but that is in public perception the real problem that they have with the immigration system… When we’ve done research into why people feel so negatively towards immigration, a lot of it is concerns about the idea that migrants are coming to Britain and taking out of the system and not putting anything back in. Again, you can cite all sorts of economic statistics to say that overall, that might not be true.”

Cooper added that “Britain wants to be a multicultural society. There’s large majorities who, who believe in that. And therefore, when the government speaks about this, it needs to sound authentic and it needs to actually acknowledge that.”

This comes as Starmer turns on Reform’s immigration policy and the One In One Out deal returns four individuals. If you want to talk about ‘fairly low’ numbers…

UPDATE: Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said:

“So far 2025, is the worst year in history for small boat crossings, but Labour now say the numbers are ‘fairly small’ and tell us to embrace mass immigration. Labour are so out of touch they can’t even see the crisis in front of their eyes.”
