Israeli politicians from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and opposition parties commended the 20-point peace plan proposed by the United States on Monday, with several praising the plan on social media as a good basis for a hostages deal and end to the war.
Here’s what politicians from different sides of the political spectrum have said so far:
Miki Zohar, Israeli minister of sports and culture, Likud party: “Israel makes peace from strength. Thank you to President Trump, thank you to Prime Minister Netanyahu.”
Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition, Yesh Atid party: “The plan of President Trump is the correct basis for a hostage deal and the end of the war.”
Benny Gantz, chair of the Blue and White party: “I commend President Trump for the enormous efforts he is investing to bring back our hostages and to secure the State of Israel. And now — it is time for initiative. We must implement the President’s plan… We must not miss again the opportunity to return our hostages, to protect our security, and to achieve a strategic shift that will later also lead to expanded normalization. We will not allow petty politics to derail the plan.”
Yair Golan, chair of the Democrats Party: “Ending the war, returning the hostages, disarming Hamas, dismantling Hamas’s rule – one would have to be an absolute Israel-hater to reject Trump’s plan. We will provide full security support for the plan. But we will only rejoice and celebrate when we see all the hostages back home.”
Isaac Herzog, Israeli president, Labor Party: “The plan presented this evening by [US President Donald Trump] offers real hope for the release of the hostages, for ensuring the security of Israel, for ending the war, and for changing the reality in the Gaza Strip and the Middle East toward a new era of regional and international partnership. I welcome the plan and call for its rapid implementation.”
