Founded in 1993, the Reina Sofía School Orchestra is led by Principal Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The group has since recorded for Sony Spain, Radio Clásica de Radio Nacional Española, Televisión Española, and Canal Plus.

On November 13, 2025, more than 70 musicians of the Reina Sofía School Orchestra and 15 members of the Colombian Youth Philharmonic will perform in the orchestra’s U.S. debut in Carnegie Hall.

The ensemble will be led by Orozco-Estrada in Albéniz’s “El Puerto and the Barber Violin Concerto featuring Renaud Capuçon as soloist. They will also perform Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” which had its historic premiere at Carnegie Hall in 1893.

During their stay in New York, the Reina Sofía School Orchestra will also be collaborating with the New York Philharmonic, The Juilliard School, Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, and the Harmony Program.

“The School’s Orchestra has a dual mission: to serve as both a cultural ambassador and an educational platform,” the Reina Sofía School wrote. “This dynamic international collaboration highlights the next generation of classical talent in a program that bridges cultures, generations, and musical legacies.”

Presenting more than 300 concerts annually, the Reina Sofía School Orchestra is part of the Reina Sofía School of Madrid, which was founded in 1991 by Paloma O’Shea. Among the school’s alumni are Sol Gabetta, Pablo Ferrández, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Kirill Gerstein, and the Casals Quartet.
