“We were quite surprised,” he said. “I’m sure pay and conditions for HGV drivers have improved, but ultimately I have decided to carry on in my role at an investment bank. My wife has never driven anything larger than a Volvo, so she is also intending to decline the exciting opportunity.
This is already old news — now the big story is that the government is asking ambulance and fire engine drivers to deliver groceries.
The confusion occurred because German car licences issued before 1993 were valid for vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, which was enough for holders to be registered in the British system as having HGV licences.
