France and Eastern Europe don’t have eyes, I guess.
Anyone know why?
Interesting, 70% seems pretty realistic too. Was 60% like 10 years ago or so.
why so huge difference bw BE-NL? And SE bw Scandinavians?
I wear contact lenses
Maybe the average amount of people who read in a set period of time correlates with this. Just maybe
What the hell
70% seems excessive.
My only guess for why Estonia is so low is that nature heals eyes and Estonians love walking in nature.
I’m surrounded by foureyes! *takes out contact lenses*
The one I don’t understand is how Sweden is so much lower compared to Finland and Norway.
Belgian here. My guess would be that we have a significant amout of people working desk jobs in comparison with other countries. So lots of screen time
Low percentage in Turkey is probably because old people just don’t bother with getting glasses. At least 40-50% of the young people around me are wearing glasses.
I prefer ear spectacles myself.
Now the more Interesting question is: how many actually need them but don’t or barely need them but do?
“The above data comes from Statista and sadly Statista is purposefully vague about the methodology and source”
… yeah, I wouldn’t trust this map too much
It might be interesting to know the average prices of such prescriptions compared to the average income in each country
A graph about Europe… without half of Europe.
What about contact lenses?
*laughs in -12*
Does this correlate with average consumption of carrots per capita?
That map can’t possibly be true. 66% of people here should, statistically speaking, be wearing glasses here. And yet, in my friend group, 3 out 21 people wears glasses/contact lenses… I also don’t see THAT many people that wear glasses either
Some nations are low because old people buy their glasses from the supermarket, unprescribed.
Britain included but France excluded? OUR PLAN IS WORKING!
Missing Portugal and France but there’s the UK lol what is this map
Lmao Belgium how’re you doing 4-eyes
It’s a crime to hide those blue Estonian eyes behind glasses.
Pol Pot target map
Turkye #1 😎 wait no glasses😳 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷❤️❤️❤️❤️
Somehow i think its partly due to cost…
I think we can assume that the percentage of people who need glasses is more or less the same everywhere and that difference are down to such factors as demographics, culture and availability.
You are more likely to need glasses when you get older, so countries with older skewing demographics will have more glasses wearers.
People might avoid wearing glasses out of vanity despite needing them.
Lasik surgery and contact lenses are alternatives that might depend on availability and income.
