‘Med beds’: Donald Trump shares video championing alleged cure-all technology • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] Good to have you with us, Charlotte. You’re focusing tonight on a video that’s been shared by Donald Trump promoting an alleged cural medical bed. Tell us more. Yes, over the weekend, Trump posted or shared a seemingly AI generated video of himself championing championing a fictional cural technology dubbed medbeds. Now, the clip sought to bear resemblance to a Fox News segment on the show hosted by the president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. And the US president shared the video on his truth social platform. It has since been deleted from his account, but I did manage to get hold of it. So, let’s take a look. Of America’s first medbed hospitals and a national medbed card for every citizen. Every American will soon receive their own MedBed card. With it, you’ll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals led by the top doctors in the nation, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world. These So, some pretty bold claims in that clip uh which was circulated not only on truth social but other platforms including X Sharon. So, you mentioned that the video is generated using artificial intelligence. How did you come to that conclusion exactly? Yes. So, there are a handful of indicators that the clip was indeed generated using AI. First of all, as we can see in this screenshot, the resolution in the video is pretty low. And as you might have picked up on, Donald Trump’s intonation is not quite the same as it is in real life. It has this slightly robotic quality to it, as does that of Laura Trump. And the Fox News graphics are not quite right either. Now, since the show My View with Laura Trump actually does exist, we can compare the graphics of the two. And as you can see, there are some differences between the video shared by Trump and um a screenshot from the actual segment such as here and here if we compare the graphics. Now, what’s more is that Fox News confirmed to multiple outlets that this clip actually never aired on the network. Now, Trump’s sharing of the video did prompt a mixed response online. Some did actually believe this was a real news segment, such as this person here, who said, I quote, “Trump announced announces medbeds to restore users to full health.” Others, meanwhile, took a more cynical approach and were quick to pick up on the fact that it was in fact AI generated. This person, for example, said, I quote, “Trump posted a fake AI Fox News promo for medbeds, which are not real.” Sharon, so what more can you tell us then about the conspiracy theory itself and those who believe in it? Well, in recent years, the medbed conspiracy theory has gained particular traction in QAnon circles online, as CNN reports in this article. And for viewers who are unfamiliar, QAnon is a thoroughly debunked theory. It claims that Trump is spearheading a secret war against elite Satan worshiping pedophiles in the government and in media. Now, some in these circles have long thought that Trump would make this apparent miracle technology available to the masses. According to McGill University’s Office for Science and Technology, proponents of this conspiracy theory believe that medbeds are a top secret technology possessed by militaries around the globe. Believers say it can reverse aging. It can cure all diseases and it can even uh allegedly regrow missing limbs. It allegedly uses frequencies, AI, and quantum technology to regenerate DNA. And some online go so far as to claim that John F. Kennedy Jr. is still alive and well thanks to this technology. So yes, some in the Q anon movement make a whole host of extravagant unfounded uh and also vague claims about uh medbeds and indeed as Sara Anano this woman here who is a disinformation analyst points out she says I quote it’s very hard to define something that does not actually exist. This has not stopped businesses from capitalizing uh on the excitement around the alleged technology though. For instance, one website I found here called medbed.com sells what it calls a limited series MedBed card for hundreds of dollars. But on the various different websites offering products that they brand as medbeds, there are disclaimers stating that these devices, whatever devices they are offering, uh cannot cure or treat diseases. Now, it’s unclear as to why Trump shared that video uh with an announcement that he did not make about a device that did not exist. David Colon, this man here who is a historian and researcher at Seance Po. He says he offers a number of suggestions as to why this may be. He says it could be that Trump saw content that was presenting him in a uh favorable light and shared it quickly without checking. Kon also says it could be that Trump wanted to maybe send a message to the Q and non circles who of course view him as a hero. Another theory put forward uh by the researcher is that it could be a diversionary tactic on the part of Trump. Colon says, I quote, “Trump is of course under heavy criticism in the United States on a whole host of issues and he adds that a far-fetched story such as that regarding the medbeds could indeed divert attention.” Sharon, Charlotte, thanks so much for clearing all of that up for us. That is Charlotte Hughes with tonight’s Truth or Fake. Do stay with us. We’ll be right back with more royal

Over the weekend, Donald Trump shared an apparently AI-generated clip championing fictional cure-all medical technology, known as ‘med beds’. The video was since deleted from his account, but it injected new life into a long-held conspiracy theory about ‘med beds”, which is prominent in far-right QAnon circles online.

  1. So trump's admin is actually Selling access cards to these fictitious med beds. Unbelievable amount of BS. If MAGA wants to buy cards for something that does not exist, fine let them. I guess when they try to access when they have stage 4 pancreatic cancer then they will find out how this administration rolls.

  2. Trump’s med-beds are a miracle. It straps you down, turns you upside down and shakes out every penny you are worth. Much more effective than buying pills.

  3. How could anyone believe that was Trump speaking? It was in complete sentences, stayed on topic, and went for more than 10 seconds without mentioning how great Trump is.
