International students or “”international students””.
Sounds more like an immigration crisis.
Seriously, I have no issue with people moving to Ireland, but the lack of foresight between letting people into the country and not ensuring the right conditions of building of accommodation is obviously going to lead to a shortage, price increases and therefore homelessness.
Does Brazil and Chile not have internet? Did these poor souls not Google the fucking rent prices before they moved half way round the world here?
They should go home. You don’t see me moving to Hong Kong or Zurich and then crying I didn’t know it was so expensive
That’s just part of living in Dublin.
These student visas for the English schools need to be reviewed, it doesn’t benefit the country to bring them in here when there’s a housing crisis and the schools themselves are doing nothing positive for the country just taking advantage of these students.
Went on a few dates with foreign women over the years.
The one common denominator was the shitholes they were living in, unliveable and some sharing rooms.
So just go home?
Like, why the fuck would you choose to be homeless. Just go back to your own country.
If I moved to New York, and my choices were either be homeless or go back to Ireland, I’d obviously move back.
Why don’t they just, idk, go home?
I wonder how many people here commenting ever left Ireland or have experience moving to another country without a support network. It might be an open secret that a lot of people get an English student visa and overstay, but it’s just as common for those English schools to overpromise on what those students can expect when coming here. The schools also attract people to come and no one is asking how they’re advertising.
There’s a fella in my course who is sharing a room in Cork for €800 per month. Landlords are exploiting these students, and sweet fuck all is being done about it.
I take students for an English school near me. It started out as a favour for someone and I just kept going. I have had a fair few arguments with the school over the housing issue. They keep taking students with nowhere to put them. I get rung 3 or 4 times a week asking to take more. I have 1 spare room, enough for 1 student. The students staying with me have said they’re promised proper bed and board when they apply but a lot of students don’t get this. A lot end up with sub standard living conditions and food is never provided. One of the guys I had staying with me said in his previous accomodation he wasn’t allowed out of his room if the the host family had visitors.

Take a look at the [Garda Missing Persons website](https://www.garda.ie/en/missing-persons/?pageNumber=4). I was surprised at the number of “missing” Chinese students.
