  1. Err ok that’s how it usually works… let’s see what they do with it, make the lives of everyone better or just bang on about a “United Ireland”

  2. That title does a terrible job of telling even a bit of the story. A nationalist party just won an NI election for the first time.

  3. They’re progressive when it comes to supporting LGBT rights and being Pro Choice, but when it comes things unique to Northern Ireland, they were the political representatives of the PIRA and to this day continue to eulogise those “men” who murdered and terrorised hundreds of innocent Irish civilians up and down our island.

Also, given this is a largely EU sub, they were also notoriously eurosceptic until 2016 as the EU didn’t sit well with their brand of nationalism

  4. For context Ireland was partioned by the British to create a stately (NI) in which the majority would eternally be loyal to Britain, with the minority native Irish/Nationalist population being made to suffer under Unionist rule.

100 years later the biggest party is now Nationalist and the census figures released next year are expected to show the Nationalist population has now overtaken the Unionist population.

These shifting demographics mixed with the fallout from Brexit is making a Irish reunification more plausible than ever before.
