  1. **From Semafor:** The Trump administration announced new measures aimed at propping up coal mines and power plants, but it’s not clear they’ll be enough to reverse the industry’s long-term decline. The Interior Department said it will open 13.1 million acres of federal land for new coal mines, and the Energy Department said it will [provide $625 million for utilities](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-29/trump-opens-13-million-acres-for-coal-mines-to-aid-ailing-sector) to invest in extending the life of existing coal plants.

  2. Yawn. Someone needs to buy the coal. Who will it be? And for how long? And what people will decide to get black lung disease and apply for jobs – in an economy with no or poor health care benefits?

  3. But he won’t pay for your black lung treatment. Just a giveaway for the coal companies.

  4. Not even trying to BS people with saying clean coal anymore….

  5. Again dude loves to waste other peoples money on anything. The rest of the world is moving away from coal. It costs more to use coal than other, newer technologies at this point. Workers in coal suffer and can have better, longer careers in the new energy sectors. But sure let’s waste $670 million because Dump Fuherer says so.

  6. Where are all the Trumpers who said we needed to stop solar and wind tax credits because the industry “should be able to survive on its own”?

  7. What a fucking strange period. Next , let’s bring back living in caverns.

  8. That’s more than enough money to fix our housing market and literally end homelessness…

Instead we’re going to light it on fire and cook the health and upward mobility of even more generations of people.

  9. I’ll say it again, my job is to train utilities companies on how to best model their power grids. No one wants to buy coal. They all want to talk about onboarding more renewable and decommissioning coal. It’s so out of touch and embarrassing to spend $625M to revive coal instead of using that money for infrastructure or education or healthcare..
