Makeup mogul Bobbi Brown appeared on the Breaking Beauty podcast to promote her new book, Still Bobbi. During the episode, the conversation turned to Kate's April 2011 wedding to Prince William — and while she used Bobbi Brown products, the makeup artist said she wasn't the one to apply them.
"I didn't do her makeup. I wish I did," Brown, 68, said in the interview. "It was one of my artists, Hannah Martin, who's become quite a sensation in the U.K."
It was previously believed that the Princess of Wales, now 43, did her own makeup for the big day after taking lessons.
However, Brown confirmed to the hosts, "Hannah did her makeup."

… really? I was willing to believe she’d done her own makeup because it looked a bit… amateur tbh.
Her makeup didn’t look great so I assumed she did it herself, especially the eyeliner.
I got married at the same time as she did and hired a professional MUA for me, my mother and my sister for the morning of the wedding. It struck me as such a weird thing to ‘boast’ about, that she was doing her own makeup.
It was that weird eyeliner and super bright blush
A professional did that eyeliner?
So in the book they had a drawn picture of the makeup to serve as a guide for the day of. The eyeliner was meant to be right on the waterline and they did say they didn’t want to smudge it. Kate wanted the stark line- my guess is they couldn’t get it right on the waterline because it’s too sensitive of a place for her to sit still so they got as tight as they could.
Did she or the palace or anybody official ever say she did her makeup? Or did everybody always assume she did because it just looked like a more intense version of what she did on herself everyday? I remember seeing a product list in a magazine at the time, and I don’t think it even listed Bobbi Brown products, so clearly it was wrong.
Part of me was never convinced she’d do her own makeup for what would be one the biggest events in British monarchy and modern history that would be watched by millions. There’s so much to consider – how the makeup looks in person and how it looks in camera etc. I can’t imagine not having a makeup artist and not going through a makeup trial so her makeup looked amateur as that’s what she would’ve liked.
Same with Meghan Markle, who did have a makeup artist who was paid a great fee for what was a barely there makeup look but it was very much Meghan’s style.
Edit:
> “Catherine was very involved in her chosen style, and the bridal look was based on her own personal preference,” Ward previously told PEOPLE. “It was really a matter of getting a fine balance of feeling natural but also reflected the occasion.”
I always thought she’d had tattooed eyeliner. Make up tattoos were all the rage when she was in uni and bouncing around nightclubs in the early 2000’s. It’s such a harsh look and she always wore it, so I thought she’d had it tattooed on and maybe lasered off when it went out of fashion.
Everyone thought she did her own makeup because her black eyeliner was garish, and what skilled makeup artist would have done that?
Maybe this is super uncommon but for my wedding I did my own eyeliner because I struggle to stay still for that part (in my defense my eyeliner did not look like that!) but a make up artist did the rest so maybe that’s the explanation here it would kind of explain why it looked how it did and how the “she did her own make up” started etc
Yeah, ok. And?!
Maybe she learned to do her own makeup professionally for like learning to do her daily makeup, as a public figure which she was going to become post wedding? Like it doesn’t seem that wild to me, if I were in her position I would’ve been taking elocution classes, hair and makeup classes, working out in the gym w a trainer and a program, the whole thing 😂, being a public figure is insane with the level of scrutiny. I never thought she did her own hair and makeup for her wedding. I think there was some sort of miscommunication
I don’t know how anyone believed this at all. How many millions were spent on this wedding? She was in control of very little, I’m not even convinced she chose her own wedding dress, let alone did her own make up. The Royal Family isn’t known to give people that kind of autonomy.
Kate doing her own makeup was probably just a PR story to keep her relatable to the average person.
I figured she probably didn’t do the makeup for the event but was taught how to do touch up’s which is fairly common
>> Brown, 68
>> Princess of Wales, now 43
Why? Why adding age after comma? Who cares? What does it have to do with makeup?
So weird that Kate and the BRF encouraged this rumor over the years and never gave any credit to the actual artist. Glad that Bobbi came out and confirmed it, and shaded her for not even sending a proper thank you card lol. Although I’m not sure at this point I would want the credit, the rumor was believable because the makeup didn’t look great. That harsh eyeliner especially.
In Kate’s defense SHE didn’t lie, she just didn’t correct the royal commentators who started and perpetuated the rumor. But she managed to issue a correction six months later when commentators said she was wearing extensions.
Now y’all know damn well if Meghan did this….
Oh I love Hannah Martin! I learned so much from her YouTube channel.
