HE DID. TONIGHT, KAI MORE THAN $370 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING EACH WEEK. THAT’S HOW MUCH MONEY GOVERNOR WES MOORE SAYS THE STATE OF MARYLAND RELIES ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR TO RUN THINGS LIKE HEALTH CARE, FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. THEY WERE THINGS THAT HE ADDRESSED TONIGHT DURING THAT SPEECH TO THE STATE. THINGS THAT ARE NOW IMPACTED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. A SHUTDOWN MEANS WAGES LOST, A SHUTDOWN MEANS PROGRAMS SHUTTERED. A SHUTDOWN MEANS PROJECTS SCRAPPED. GOVERNOR WES MOORE, ADDRESSING THE STATE WEDNESDAY EVENING, DESCRIBING THE IMPACT OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. THE COUNTRY IS BARRELING TOWARDS ENORMOUS SPIKES IN HEALTH CARE COSTS. SO ON BEHALF OF 6.5 MILLION MARYLANDERS, MY MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP IS CRYSTAL CLEAR. STOP THIS SHUTDOWN. YOU’RE THE ONE CAUSING IT. BUT WE ARE THE ONES FEELING IT. ‘We’re the ones feeling it’: Gov. Moore calls on President Donald Trump to end government shutdown
Governor Wes Moore delivered a gubernatorial address Wednesday night as we near the end of day one of the government shutdown
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore delivered a gubernatorial address Wednesday night following the federal government shutdown.”We are here because (Washington, D.C.) broke its pact with all 50 states,” Moore said. “The President of the United States couldn’t close a deal on making health care more affordable.”Moore blamed President Donald Trump while talking about the impacts the shutdown will have on Marylanders. He said Maryland relies on more than $370 million in federal support each week to run things like health care and food assistance programs.”The longer this shutdown lasts, the more likely we are to see serious damage,” Moore said. “We could see big infrastructure projects delayed. We could see military families going without pay for weeks. We could see entrepreneurs and small businesses going to the red. We will do everything in our power to deliver relief to those who are struggling and continue to diversify Maryland’s economy.”The governor said he is taking three immediate actions to support impacted Marylanders.First, state agencies are directed to deploy shutdown contingency plans to keep federal programs running. Second, he is delivering protections to federal workers impacted to avoid things like eviction, foreclosure and utility shutoffs. Lastly, the state is expanding emergency resources to federal workers who are furloughed, fired or asked to work without pay. “We will do everything in our power to deliver relief to those struggling. But I need to be direct with you: No state is prepared to fill the gap that’s being created by this federal administration,” Moore said. “So, on behalf of 6.5 million Marylanders, my message to President Trump is very clear: Stop the shutdown. You’re the one causing it. We’re the ones feeling it.”For additional information and resources, click the link.
