WANA (Oct 02) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, strongly condemned Israel’s attack on the Samoud (Steadfastness) Flotilla, describing it as a “blatant violation of international law and a terrorist act.”

The flotilla, consisting of more than 50 vessels carrying humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza, included 534 activists from 44 countries. As the ships approached Gaza on Wednesday, October 1, Israeli naval forces intercepted the convoy, seizing 13 of the vessels and detaining several activists.

Baghaei praised the humanitarian initiative by international civil society groups and activists, who organized the flotilla in solidarity with Palestinians and in an attempt to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

He also condemned what he described as Israel’s “continued ethnic cleansing and killing of innocent people in Gaza,” stressing that all governments have a legal, moral, and humanitarian responsibility to stop what he called genocide against Palestinians and to hold perpetrators accountable.

The Iranian spokesman urged the international community to take immediate action, warning that Israel’s actions not only violate international norms but also deepen the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

The Israeli navy had earlier warned the flotilla that proceeding toward Gaza would be considered a violation and that participants risked arrest if they entered the blockaded area. The interception has sparked protests across parts of Europe and the Middle East.
