Moldova has the potential to become a member of the European Union within the next three years, according to Romanian President Nicușor Dan. During the conference titled “Europe at a Crossroads – Security, Prosperity, and Our Common Future,” held in Timişoara. President Dan expressed confidence that Moldova will make every effort to achieve EU membership and noted the unanimous support for this endeavour within the European Union, as reported by the Romanian news agency Agerpres.

“I am firmly convinced that Moldova will attain European Union membership within three years. Despite facing significant challenges, particularly a five- to seven-fold increase in gas prices, both the government and the majority of citizens are committed to pursuing the European path. In this political cycle, where presidential and parliamentary terms are four years, Moldova is dedicated to fulfilling the necessary requirements for EU accession. The European Union stands united in its affirmation that Moldova will be welcomed once it meets all stipulated conditions,” Dan stated.

He highlighted the critical role of Romania’s support in this process. He emphasised that Romania has been actively collaborating with Moldova on various issues, including cybersecurity, at the request of the Moldovan government in the lead-up to the elections.

Furthermore, Dan indicated that Romanian experts are ready to provide ongoing assistance to Moldova in its preparations for EU membership, even after accession.

In related news, Igor Grosu, the leader of the ruling Moldovan PAS party, recently met in Bucharest with Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to discuss bilateral relations and support for Moldova’s European integration. Grosu announced plans for the new parliament to establish a commission focused on European integration, akin to those operating in other candidate countries.
