A shipment of peppers originating from Albania has been blocked by Slovenian authorities after testing revealed the presence of pesticide residues. The residues were described as “very serious” and posing a risk to consumer health. The exact quantity blocked has not yet been disclosed.
According to the RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) notification, the case has been classified as an “alert”. The peppers were blocked on September 5, when analyses showed levels of acetamiprid, formetanate, and flonicamide exceeding the permitted limits. The traceability system recommends avoiding consumption, as the substances are harmful to human health.
So far, Albania’s National Food Authority (AKU) has not issued any response regarding the case.
This is not the first time Slovenia has detected excess pesticide residues in Albanian products. Just a few days earlier, Slovenian authorities reported the withdrawal from the market of another shipment of hot red peppers from Albania, which also contained pesticide residues well above the permitted levels.
