Or maybe he has dementia and can’t use logical reasoning to connect why Russia was rejected from joining an organization literally formed to deter its imperialistic expansionism.
Generally, becoming a member of NATO is contingent on you not invading your neighbours.
I’ve been hearing this talking point for the past two years

The NATO stuff is old news.
Russia approached NATO/the US about joining. got a “okay, here’s the checklist you need to meet to qualify…” and Putin made a whole production out of the insult it was that they didn’t come begging for russia’s inclusion. He never applied in good faith or met the basic criteria even if he’d have had a snowball’s chance of every member nation voting yes to Russia’s inclusion.
As for the west not caring about Ukraine, he’s not wrong in that the people in power don’t care as much as they say they do, but **him** saying that is ridiculous.

I don’t mean any offence by this, but he’s right. The West *are* unreliable allies. He can sit his army in Eastern Ukraine and just wait for the NATO allies to lose interest. NATO has been in disarray for a while. We even have no idea how seriously anybody takes NATO within the organization anymore with the US declaring trade war on all of its allies and talking about annexing Canada and Greenland. Would Britain, France or Germany come to our aid if such a thing ever happened? The way their leaders have prostrated themselves before Trump, I somehow doubt it. Would Poland, Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania? Even more doubtful.
And he’s right that we’ve viewed Ukrainians as expendable. The hope for a lot of hawks at the start of this conflict is that this war would drag on for a decade or more and that the wheels of Russia’s war machine would get stuck in an Afghanistan/Vietnam type of conflict and that it would become an insurgency. The unspoken part of this is that this would require the ongoing destruction of Ukraine and annihilation of a significant population of Ukrainians. The utility of Ukraine here for those hawks is not a free and independent Ukraine. It’s to slow down Russia’s growth as a military power and getting them stuck in a quagmire of a war.
He has proved exactly why Russia could not be invited into NATO. He has used his allies in the EU to attempt to damage EU support for Ukraine. He would use a position in NATO to damage the organisation.
Ukrainians are just as disinterested in defending themselves as Europeans are in defending them.
My impression has been that most people thought we should react stronger and go full in at the start of the war, and that “EU” limp dickedness has made the general publics interest wane.
It feels like it’s a bit late.
One of the most corrupt countries in the world, with a population of 38 million.
I’m sure there’s a lot that’s happened that i am unaware of, and i don’t know the intricacies of why Ukraine was so unprepared for this invasion or why the country sucked so much in the first place,-
but, this victim blaming is ridiculous.
They flock to western countries to breed and settle while European youth are told to prepare for war.
It’s like there’s a common goal of demoralizing everyone as much as possible.
At the same time whites die fighting each other while our countries invite third world poverty en mass, like it’s a race to the bottom.

I doubt anyone will buy this “speech” in “the west” when it’s so distorted from reality.

become part of the western market of europe of free trade and travel, prosper with the people in the delight of freedom in prosperity. Then when trust and unison has been built we can include you in Nato with the highest regard.
When people in the west are saying stuff like “we will fight to the last Ukrainian” it kind of proves his point and we all remember old BoJo blowing up the first Istanbul summit that could have nipped this in the bud and Angela Merkle admitting that the Minsk accords were just to buy time and policy papers like “Extending Russia” which detail using Ukraine to weaken Russia to help encircle and fight China.
