It’s not ‘like a detention camp’. It *is* a detention camp.
“Its not like we are rounding up and gassing the jews”. Yeah well the nazis rounded them up and put them in detention centres first before a few years later deciding to gas them. This is another copycat awful step towards based on the same ideology. I am horrified watching this happen again.
Detention centres for asylum seekers is appalling, disgusting horrific and pretty up there on the Nazi scale.
Concentration camp. This is the most cartoonishly evil bullshit they’ve pulled in a while
So, the total number of people coming across the channel seems to be at most in the order of tens of thousands every year (and in fact was even less than that previously). Why is it such a huge issue? I’m not saying we shouldn’t try cooperate more with French to limit this number, that we shouldn’t try to observe the things better at sea that less people drown or that we shouldn’t have better policies in place to make this particular and dangerous way to the UK unattractive, but surely creating these evil detention camps is completely disproportionate response to the issue.
Which is the point of them. Look at how we treat prisoners and how the public wants them to be treated, it is not humane by any means. Now consider how those same people view immigrants, especially those coming via crossing the Channel, they want them treated worse than prisoners. When the idea of naval patrol boats patrolling the Channel or the condemnation of the RNLI helping migrants in sinking boats gets support from the public, of course a plan like this will too.
>It’s ‘like a detention camp’
The same would be said of processing centres built in the UK. So what is the solution? Open a legal corridor for any and all undocumented peoples to enter the UK and try their luck on the asylum claimant lotto? Would that increase or decrease the number of alleged refugees? In the years that these applications take to process, should we house them all in cushy hotels and our abundance of empty homes? Where does the money come from to fund all this?
Unfortunately we do not have the means to save the Global South from poverty.
The Cruelty Is The Point. Priti Patel isn’t the disease, she’s a symptom.
They are illigal immigrants. What are people expecting? Entire hotels rented out just for them at the UK’s expense? They can go back to where they came from or go to Rwanda… Its up to them.
