Greece leads the EU in housing cost burdens for young adults, with three in 10 aged 15-29 spending more than 40% of their disposable income on housing, according to 2024 EU data.

The figure is three times the EU average, where only 10% of young people live in households allocating more than 40% of their income to housing.

Croatia and Cyprus reported the lowest shares, at 2% and 3%, respectively.

The high housing cost burden is not limited to young Greeks. Overall, 29% of Greece’s population spends more than 40% of their disposable income on housing, well above the second-highest country, Denmark, at 15%.
